Pupils in Barnet took part in the annual Barnet Bar No One event at Hendon Leisure Centre on 9th February 2012. Originally set up as a Paralympics hand over event for the 2008 Games, this event has developed over the years to become a fully inclusive sports participation event, working with key partners from Tottenham Hotspur Foundation, Sports Development and now the Saracens Foundation, who kicked off the event with a group cheer.
Over 80 pupils all with varying abilities took part in their school teams representing an Olympic country in table cricket, poly bat, athletics, indoor rowing, boccia, new age kurling and in the additional skittles and seated volleyball activities. Well done to the students from Mapledown, Oaklodge, Mill Hill County, London Academy and Copthall School. We saw some fantastic team work and Olympic spirit with some stand out performances from individuals who went home proud with one of the many bronze, silver or gold medals.
Organisers now have the hard task of selecting pupils to represent Barnet in the variety of London Panathlon, London Youth Games and London School Games events.
Well done to all and a huge thank you to Hendon Leisure Centre, the coaches from Tottenham Hotspur Foundation, Saracens Foundation, Barnet and District Athletics Club, Sport Development and Barnet Community Transport for making the event happen. Look out for Barnet Bar No One 2 in the summer!!!!!
