Kwik Cricket Finals 2011

The Barnet School Sports Partnership (SSP) Kwik cricket tournament 2011 was held on 15th June involving  32 teams from 25 different schools which spread across all four SSP’s in Barnet. The event is held annually at Old Elizabethan’s C.C. and is a celebration of Year 5&6 Primary cricket. The mixed event competes for the Eric Shirley Cup and the girl’s event for the Nadine Mehta Cup.

Nick Bird (School Sports Coordinator and P.E. teacher at Queen Elizabeth’s School) and Paul Barnfather (Old Elizabethan’s C.C.) organised the tournament with the help of the very capable and hardworking leaders from Queen Elizabeth’s.

Schools from the East SSP that attended were: Osidge, St Pauls N11, Queenswell Jnrs, Danegrove, Church Hill, Monkfrith, St Johns N11, Brunswick Park. Well done to all the East Schools

The festival consisted of group stages followed by knock out stages all the way through to the final, where we had a thrilling mixed and girl’s match.  The mixed competition was won by All Saints School defeating Foulds School by 7 runs. The girl’s competition was also won by All Saints School who defeated for the second year running in the final a gallant St Mary’s school.

The skills displayed throughout the day were of a very high standard with the day filled with not only big hitting and boundaries but also improvised stroke making, well timed runs, some amazing catches and also lots of unplayable deliveries. The children played the game with a great enthusiasm at the same time as displaying a terrific understanding of the spirit of cricket and fair play.

The tournament is a fantastic opportunity for children to enter into the world of competitive cricket in a fun and encouraging atmosphere. The umpires on the day were all Young Leaders from Queen Elizabeth’s Boys School and all did a fantastic job at not only officiating but also supporting and encouraging all levels of participants as team managers.

Mixed Results:

1st – All Saints N20

2nd – Foulds

3rd – Edgeware Juniors

4th – St Johns N11

Girls Results:

1st – All Saints

2nd – St Marys

3rd – Foulds

4th – Christchurch

5th – Whitings Hill

Well done to all teams, it was a fantastic day of cricket!
