Barnet School Sport Awards 2012 Winners

The best sporting talent from Barnet schools attended the 2012 Barnet School Sport Awards evening on Friday 14th September at the Hendon Campus’s Forum, Middlesex University.  Organised by the Barnet Partnership for School Sport (BPSS) Team and supported by Pro-Active North London and the Barnet Youth Support Service, school pupils were invited to attend this prestigious event, to celebrate the sporting achievements of 2012. 

Highlighting some of the Olympic and Paralympic highlights, the evening had guest appearances from Bronze Olympic Medalist, Taekwondo star Lutalo Muhhamad, GB Olympic Fencer James Davis and former Olympian Julian Golding.  The evening, hosted by Layla Hall (Strategic Manager for the BPSS) and official Torch Bearer Kim Henderson also recognised the official torch bearers and Games Makers from Barnet – including Steve Harris and Young Leaders from the Compton School.

VIPs of the evening included, the Deputy Mayor Cllr Kate Sallinger, Cllr David Longstaff and the Director of the Children’s Service Kate Kenally.

Guests were also treated to performances from the Dream of Dance Ballroom Spectacular and London 2012 cultural rap artists – Exquiz-it.

Winners of the evening were:

Teacher / Coach of the Year – Rohan Plunkett (Akiva School)

Primary Team of the Year – Foulds, Tag Rugby Team

Secondary Team of the Year – Barnet Year 10 District Football Team

School to Club Link of the Year – Whitefield School & the Saracens Foundation

Young Performer of the Year – Aaron Hammond (Bishop Douglass RC)

Young Volunteer of the Year – Vanessa Asombalonga (Whitefield School)

Participation Project of the Year – Goldbeaters’ Olympic Fridays

School Games Team of the Year – St Michael’s Catholic High School

A surprise award of the evening was presented to Kim Henderson for her contribution to School Sport in Barnet.
