BPSS Buy-in 2020/21

As we face further unprecedented times for PE and School Sport we have been working closely with many colleagues to ensure that we can still offer you a full package of support, albeit a slightly different one for the first term.

We have been gathering and creating exciting virtual leagues, leadership opportunities, NGB programmes, officiating resources, activities and more for all year groups from September onwards. The team is creating all the original annual leagues, competitions and events for when we get the green light to host again.

Your school will have received our latest buy in offer for 2020/21 which we hope you will find reflective & supportive to engage many young people in PE, School Sport and Competition for this upcoming year.

Heads Up Kids - Back 2 School Programme

This is a new programme that has been developed and written in direct response to the current Covid- 19 pandemic to support children’s wellbeing as they return to school. To date over 100 schools have downloaded this free resource. It includes a teacher training webinar and a detailed session by session programme pack for Reception to Year 6 (see attachment for more details).

HUK Back 2 School is a teacher-led, universal programme to support the transition back to school and provide an opportunity to reconnect, a forum to talk and share and a means to look towards the future. HUK aim to build a secure and supportive environment as well as a sense of connectedness for the school as a whole during a time of change and uncertainty. The programme is a group experience where children learn through games, drama, art and discussion.

HUK wish to build teachers’ capacity for addressing wellbeing in response to the pandemic and in an ongoing way. The programme is designed to be used in combination with other school activities to support the return to school. For more information please click here.

Teaching About Mental Wellbeing

This update from the GOV.UK provides practical materials for primary and secondary schools to use to train staff about teaching mental wellbeing.  This training module supports the physical health and mental wellbeing section of the statutory relationships, sex and health education curriculum. This is the first of a series of 14 modules to support schools to implement the new curriculum.

GOV.UK have developed this mental wellbeing teacher training module to help subject leads and teachers understand what they should teach, as well as improving their confidence in delivering mental wellbeing as part of the new curriculum.  The new curriculum becomes statutory in September 2020 but the content in this module may be useful for teachers who are currently working with pupils, either face-to-face or remotely, to support them to maintain good mental health and address issues before they escalate.

Socially Distanced Physical Activities

SASP (Somerset Activity and Sports Partnership) have put together a range of resources to offer support to School Staff with simple activities to play outside - keeping within the social distancing guidelines.
