BPSS Board Statement on Inter School Competitions

The following statement from Jo Eames, Strategic Manager on BPSS on behalf of the Board was released last Thursday.

‘Whilst we understand that some NGBs including England Basketball, FA, RFU and ESFA have promoted that youth ‘community sport’ can go back to playing matches and training, with many restrictions in place, we do NOT feel this is appropriate for schools’ competitions. After a discussion with the board of headteachers and taking into account the latest advice from afPE which identifies that ‘afPE’s position at the current time is that school fixtures should be avoided, as this will involve contact across schools, and increase the opportunities for virus transmission.  BPSS will not be returning to face-to-face competitions including leagues until January 2021, at the earliest.’

To help us identify what sports leagues your school might like to take part in January can you please complete the following surveys, if you have not done so already.

BPSS will be managing an FA girls’ football partnership for KS1 – 4 Students

The Football Association supported by Barclays and the Youth Sport Trust have recruited a network of education-based partnerships with schools throughout England. Girls’ Football Schools Partnerships aim to develop innovative ways to deliver football for girls, improving participation from their very first experience; creating an active and confident generation of inspired female footballers, coaches, officials, leaders, activists and marketeers.

·       Demonstrate the value of girl’s football within the whole school through delivery of bespoke interventions for schools through which schools can access FREE CPD, resources and equipment.

·       Advocate the impact of football on girls’ wellbeing, leadership and achievement

·       Develop and test specialist interventions and learning through the vehicle of football in schools

·       Collaborate with partners to support transition of young people to sustain their involvement in girls’ football.

Primary Schools have the opportunity to take part in the FA Shooting Stars Project.

To sign up as a KS1/KS2 interest please complete this survey.

Secondary Schools have the opportunity to take part in the Game of Our Own (GOOO) Project

Secondary Teacher Training Project – Barnet Schools Plan

This project will enable you in collaboration with your Barnet PE colleagues to develop PE in a way that best suits your students to increase motivation and participation. What you do is up to you but most of the spend should be about professional development and dialogue with no more than 10% on capital costs. If you or your line manager / SLT need to know a little bit more than please see the Sport England website.

If your school wants to be involved in this project you will need to ensure SLT approval so that we can submit an ' expression of interest' in October half term 2020. We would be in the final phase of the project, so this is the last opportunity to access this funding. If we get approval, then there would be an 'Orientation' event in the w/c 1st February 2021 which a member of SLT should attend with the PE HOD or lead.
