BPSS Roadshow Festival

We have been overwhelmed by the response to our BPSS Roadshow Festival, thank you to all those schools that have been in contact so far.

The festivals will entail BPSS staff visiting your school and running a mixture of activity stations on your school playground/field. BPSS will ensure all BPSS Roadshow Festivals are Covid secure by following strict government guidance and adhering to each school's individual policy.

KS2 Virtual Skipping Challenge – Summer Schedule

The Year 4 and Year 3 Virtual Skipping Challenges, which were postponed during the Spring term, will now take place during the Summer term. The results from these two year groups will be added to the Year 6 and Year 5 competitions, which took place during the Autumn term, to determine the overall KS2 competition. Details of the KS1 competition will be sent next week.

LYG x School Games Fitness Challenges

A massive well done to the pupils from All Saint’s NW2, Brookland Jnrs, Foulds, Garden Suburb Jnrs, Holy Trinity, Livingstone, Monkfrith, Northside, Our Lady of Lourdes, Parkfield, St Agnes, St John’s N20, St Paul’s NW7 and The Annunciation Jnrs that participated in the LYG x Fitness Challenges. After 8 challenges and 2,295 entries, Barnet finished in 11th position overall on the leaderboard out of 33 London Boroughs.

A reminder that you can find a downloadable Participation Certificate to award to all young people that took part in the LYG x School Games Fitness Challenges to recognise their efforts! 

 

 

PE and Sport Premium – Deadline Update Reminder

A reminder that on 16 March 2021, the Department for Education confirmed that they have extended the 31 March deadline for spending PE and sport premium funding that was carried forward from the 2019/20 academic year. Schools will now have until the end of this (2020/21) academic year to spend the carried forward funding, in line with the deadline for spending this year’s PE and sport premium allocation.

School Swimming – Bookings Open

Better, who operate a variety of public leisure centres in Barnet, are now taking bookings for the Summer term and enquiries for the 2021/22 academic year. To find your nearest facility, please click here.

To enable them to create a safe environment and maximise pool space, they will be offering COVID secure intensive school swimming model for the Summer term. The programme will be delivered over a 2 week period, with classes attending for an hour a day. This will ensure pupils receive an intensive learning experience with consistent teachers for 10 hours.

First Pitch – Major League Baseball Programme

We have an exciting opportunity to deliver and test new content in partnership with Major League Baseball, called First Pitch.

This programme provides teachers/TAs with skills, confidence and resources to deliver PE and School Sport for KS2 through a fundamental bat and ball skills program. This will support schools to help pupils achieve their recommended CMO guidance of 60 minutes of daily physical activity. 

Full details were sent on Tuesday, if you are interested in taking part in this free programme please let your SGO know by 5pm Monday 29th March.

BACE Holidays is an inclusive programme for children and young people who are in receipt of free school meals. Designed to experience active and healthy activities with an emphasis on physical, emotional and nutritional wellbeing during the school holidays.

Free Online Teacher Training & Resources – LTA Tennis Reminder

On 16th March the LTA announced a new, free online course to guide you through how to use their innovative resources that have been developed by teachers, for teachers.

If this wasn’t enough, schools that complete the online course will receive a resources pack and a £250 voucher to spend on equipment, or ten hours of team teaching support from an LTA Accredited Coach.
