Leadership Academy - Initial Information

Update on the Academy!

Leaders will be invited to apply for the selection evening from September 2011. Year 10 - 12 students are invited to apply - sporty or non sporty.

What is the Leadership Academy?

A training and development programme for students who are actively seeking to increase their leadership skills either in their school or in the local community.

Selection Criteria

  • Aimed at students in Year 10
  • Experience in leadership either in school or the community or identified by the PE department as having good leadership qualities. Students must apply to their school for a place in the academy.

What do I get from the programme?

  • Training and qualifications
  • Experience to add to UCAS form and / or CV
  • Opportunity to work with pupils in other partnership schools / colleges
  • Contacts for community voluntary placements
  • Certificates for 50, 100, 200 hours logged on the SiS Volunteer Passport
  • T-Shirt to wear whilst volunteering
  • Selected members of the academy will be invited to attend the Pro-Active North London ‘celebration' event

What do I have to commit to?

  • You must attend all training sessions - or give notice if not able to attend
  • You must commit to 50 hours of sports volunteering at school and / or the community
  • There is a registration fee of £20 to attend the academy

When and where will the academy take place?

  • All sessions will take place on week day evenings at one of the 4 hub sites (East Barnet, QE Girls, St James, Whitefield School)
  • The training will take place between October 2011 - July 2012
  • Mentoring opportunities for leaders in September 2012

Leadership Academy training / events

  1. Academy briefing and Step into Sport volunteer passport registration
  2. Team Building Day
  3. Child Protection Course
  4. Emergency First Aid
  5. Introduction to disability awareness using practical activities
  6. Assist in the organisation and delivery of at least one partnership sports event
  7. Officiate at one event for your school or local club
  8. Opportunity to gain accreditation in Bolt on sports/officials courses e.g. rugby, table tennis, netball
