Primary Weekly Update - 25.02.21

Barnet Twin Towns Challenge

In no time at all we have successfully reached both our third and fourth destinations, Ramat Gan (Israel) and Morphou (Cyprus). In doing so we have ticket off two more continents on our list, Asia and Europe, having already visited North America and Africa.

Following our departure from Jinja (Uganda) we travelled north through South Sudan, Ethiopia, Sudan and Egypt, before briefly crossing the Red Sea and into Israel. This section of the journey covered 2,190 miles. From here we travelled 239 miles across the Mediterranean Sea and into our fourth destination, Morphou (Cyprus).

We are at the halfway stage in terms of Twin Towns visited (Montclair, Jinja, Ramat Gan and Morphou), however with the remaining four destinations in Germany and France, you could say we are approaching the home straight.

A big thank you to Monkfrith, Moss Hall Jnrs and the Barnet Strava Club for their contributions this week. A reminder that in recognition for your pupil’s efforts so far, we have designed printable A5 certificates which can be found in the resources section here.

Resources for Parents/Guardians

We are continuing to collate a PDF spreadsheet, attached, for schools to circulate to their school community. It contains useful links of ways in which parents/guardians can motivate their children to stay active and healthy throughout lockdown. We continually update this information each week with the latest resources released, which are marked ‘New’.

A big well done to the pupils from Brookland Jnr, Foulds, Garden Suburb Jnr, Holy Trinity, Livingstone, Monkfrith, Our Lady of Lourdes, Parkfield & St Agnes that participated in the fourth weekly Fitness Challenge and collectively contributed towards Barnet’s overall score. Barnet Healthy Weight Management

BPSS are proud to be working with the Healthy Weight NHS Team by providing a programme of physical activity sessions. These children are referred as part of the National Child Measurement Programme and other health professionals working in Barnet. Typically the children are above the 99.6th Centile which places them in the very overweight category on the children's BMI centile charts.

The two recorded sessions are aimed at 4-9 year olds and 10+. Please feel free to share these with any families within your school.

Inclusive PE Training Programme – Active Kids For All

This free online training programme will support teachers, trainee teachers and school staff to provide a high quality PE curriculum for all young disabled people in mainstream schools.

There are two dates available to choose from, either 10th March (4-6pm) or 22nd March (9am-12pm). Please note the latter date, 22nd March, says Chingford, however Barnet schools can still attend if this day is more convenient given the training is now being delivered virtually.

Teach Active Demo Webinar – Maximise your PE and Sport Funding

Teach Active supports schools across the UK and have been featured heavily recently in the national press regarding how they are supporting a physically active curriculum, an area which is now a high priority for schools and DfE as we ensure the personal, emotional, and academic development of our children. Teach Active is also endorsed as a good use of PE and Sport funding, so schools with any additional budget or underspend may wish to see why so many schools choose Teach Active.
